Vostro 3470, Intel Chipset driver not installing?

I have been getting pop-up notifications on my Dell Vostro 3470 Desktop PC for over month (every few days) to install a "new" driver update available, and I have been just clicking on the Install button and thought it is a new device driver getting installed every few days. Turns out, it was the same Intel Chipset Device Driver Version 10.1.17903.8106, A07, first released on 02-Apr-2019, and last updated on 02-Jul-2019 which doesn't get installed at all, and doesn't display any error either. When I downloaded this 14Mb update manually and tried installing, it showed an 'unknown error' while installing and didn't install either. On the Dell Support website too, when I let it "Detect Drivers" it lists only this driver for now, and even on clicking 'Download and install" button, it downloads and appears to install properly as it asks me to restart the PC,  but after restarting PC when I do the same exercise, it again detects this very same driver and proceeds to repeat the process once again - seems to be getting into an infinite loop. Surprised that Dell hasn't found this driver causing this issue since 02-Apr-2019 when it seems to have been released first. Does anyone face this issue too ? What is the work-around to install this driver, or prevent the pop-ups from showing up (for this driver) on my desktop ?

  • If version 1903 isn't offered automatically through Check for updates, you can get it manually through the Update Assistant.

Well, the device driver I have mentioned is available for download on Dell website too, but even that doesn't install, giving an "unknown error" message displayed while installing it. Am not sure if Dell would host malware infected files on their website. Anyway, hope they fix it soon, else remove the "defective" device driver altogether so that it doesn't keep popping up on my desktop to install !

Dell does not host malware.

HOWEVER if your machine is infected it corrupts any files downloaded and run.

Several clients claim we provided bad hardware when its actually malware infection.

This is proved by clean install on brand new drive OFFLINE where there is no internet connection.

Once Online All windows updates are done as well as drivers etc to bring them up to 1903.

This is not a one step one reboot process.

After that we scan the drive that was in the machine and find tons of junk.

User refusing to pay for service call and reinstall has their contract terminated for cause.
