Vostro 260 i3 2100 upgrade to i7

I just upgraded a 260s (Slim Tower) from a G620 to i7-2600 CPU (Sandy Bridge) P/N SR00B using the stock 250W PSU; see valid.x86.fr/tkh0iu. I believe the 260 has the same Motherboard -- socket 1155, H61 chipset. i used Bios A10. You can check out CPU world for LGA1155 CPUs

To go further, not sure about putting an IVY bridge CPU (Intel CPU 3xxx) into Sandy Bridge motherboard (Intel CPU 2xxx) unless you want to try it knowing it may not work. The i7-2700K (Sandy/SR0DG) is probably the fastest CPU you can use.

i am not sure about IVY CPU's (3xxx) in a Sandy Bridge (2xxx) motherboard. i was successful installing an Intel SR00Q Processor i5-2400 3.10 GHz in two different 260s units (BIOS A-08) using the stock 250w PSU (CN-OCYY97-70163-17F-04A8-A00) and stock CPU cooler. 

Today, i upgraded another 260s from G620 to a i7-2600 CPU, works fine (using A-10 BIOS, go to: valid.x86.fr/tkh0iu to see results). Running Core Temp now to see if it gets hot.

I can tell you from experience that a Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770S from eBay would not even POST. I tried it before and after updating the BIOS. Being from eBay there is, of course, a chance that it was DOA.

The original CPU is an Intel Pentium G630. On the off chance it's some kind of TDP issue, I ordered a Core i5-3470T. I'll let you know how that turns out but I'm not super hopefull. Numerous websites say that the Intel H61 (Cougar Point) chipset is compatible with any and all Intel CPUs that fit the LGA 1155 socket so, I wish I knew what the limitation is.

What cooler did you put? It runs hot ?
