Vostro 260 HDMI detected but showing black

I just got a vostro 260 to use as a cheap PC on my tv.  I am running Windows 10.  When i hook up the HDMI it only shows black or not detected on the screen. I can hook up to the VGA (to a monitor) and it works fine. I have even tried a VGA to HDMI converter, still the same output.  If I run the VGA to a monitor and the HDMI to my tv (Samsung), it detects that it is a Samsung tv hooked up but still shows no signal into he tv.  I am not sure what to do next.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried changing the settings but still nothing. I have also tried to use the HDMI output (and the VGA to HDMI converter) on a Dell monitor with HDMI input. Still nothing

you need to set up your TV in PC mode to show video from pc.

have you tried using another laptop or appleTV with hdmi video out to test the TV?  you need to confirm the TV HDMI input still works to show video before diagnosing vostro video out issue.

I have used an Asus Transformer through the tv. I have used it in laptop and tablet mode on the tv and it works.
