Vostro 230, cannot connect to network shared folder?

I recently replaced the old HDD in my Dell Vostro 230 desktop with an SSD. This computer was connected to a network shared folder that all computers in our office connected to, but after putting the SSD in im no longer able to connect to that folder. Any ideas on what might be the issue? Everything else works great

SSD vs Hard Drive has nothing whatsoever to do with Shared Network Folder Access.

Perform the following troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

  • go to "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System"

  • under the "Computer name, domain and workgroup settings" click the shielded "change settings" option (far right)

  • on the "Computer Name" tab, press the "Change" button (bottom right)

  • rename the computer to anything other than what it is now

  • follow the restart prompts

  • using another computer you should now be able to use windows explorer to refresh the computers on the network (under "Network" drop list) and access the newly named computer, it will ask for credentials (username and password) in my case that is the targets Microsoft id and password, this grants full access to anything shared on that computer

  • repeat these steps on any other computer not allowing access on the network

Keep in mind all of my sharing permissions are open with full control, and remember as an example if A is on A’s computer and he wants to gain network access to computer then he has to enter Microsoft username and password.

Peer to Peer Networking was removed from WINDOWS 10.

Starting with version 1803 and up HomeGroup is removed.

What’s changed?

After you update your PC to Windows 10 (Version 1803):

  • HomeGroup won’t appear in File Explorer.
  • HomeGroup won’t appear in Control Panel, which means that you can’t create, join, or leave a homegroup.
  • HomeGroup won’t appear on the Troubleshoot screen when you go to Settings  > Update & Security  > Troubleshoot .
  • You won’t be able to share new files and printers using HomeGroup.

Note

The HomeGroup (view) and HomeGroup (view and edit) options still appear in Windows 10 (Version 1803 or later) when you right-click a folder in File Explorer and then point to Give access to. However, neither option does anything. To share a file or folder, select Specific people from the same shortcut menu instead.

I have several Vostro 3670's running W-10-Pro, I am not able to get them to share over the network either. I have had a tech here several times trying to correct it ( like he has done for many of his other customers) it just won't do it- It used to at one time. Very frustrating and limiting as these are in a business.

Update: My tech found that there is a glitch sometimes if you rename the PC, which mine had to be renamed. He reverted the spare back to stock, did not rename it and was able to get into the system for sharing.
