OK ? Remove magnetic hard drive 1TB from SATA3.0 port to SATA2.0 port.
Hi, guys out there.
I just knew that the highest speed (200MB/s)of magnetic hard drive is no more than SATA2.0 (300MB/s). SATA3.0(600MB/s) is a waste of speed if it serves a magnetic hard drive.
Storage device of My Vostro 3690:
1, M.2 NVMe port: a SSD M.2 NVMe 256GB (system drive, will not change it)
2, SATA3.0 port: a magnetic hard drive 1TB
3, SATA2.0 port: unused (never use a optical drive)
So I'll make an adjustment as below:
Remove magnetic hard drive 1TB from SATA3.0 port to SATA2.0 port. And then buy a SATA3.0 SSD 1TB, and install it to SATA3.0 port.
Is this OK ? What do you think ?
Any jump sticks movement needed ?
Best,
Dave.

Actually an HDD speed is somewhere between 60 and 180 MB/s so using the HDD on a SATA 2 port should be fine. This web page has a very good explanation about HDD and SATA 2 and 3 use. The only problem may be that the specs of your system indicate an M.2 SSD and a single HDD are compatible. The BIOS must be able to see the HDD in order for it to work. It's worth a try though.

JOcean is correct.
a mechanical hdd read/write speed is actually around the speed of sata I or close to optical drive. SATAIII speed is fully used only with ssd. Therefore moving mechanical hdd to sata II or I is appropriate.

Thanks JOCean !
I do not understand "an M.2 SSD and a single HDD are compatible". M.2(M key or B/M key) interface and SATA2.0 or SATA3.0 interface are totally different. They can not insert each other.
Best,
Dave.
