Need to upgrade PSU for Vostro 3681

I want to upgrade the rather weak 200W PSU that came with this PC so I can use a GPU in the future which takes as much power as this stock PSU. Since Dell's PSU is non-standard, can anyone tell me if there is a PSU with the same dimensions as this one but rated at 400W+?

If not, I have a 600W Hercules PSU and I hear I need an adapter, but most of the ones I heard of are 24pin-to-8pin while this Vostro connects with a 6pin, is that too puny for a larger power draw? Of course, this PSU will be outside the case since it can't fit so I would prefer if I can get one with the proper dimensions but I have no idea what to look for.

Advice welcome.

V3681 mobo has Dell 6+4+4 pin socket that means it uses same power pin out as XPS 8940 G5 5000 and Optiplex 7080/7090.

You can install Dell oem Y7R0X 500w psu for 8940 in 3681 will fit like a glove and give you enough power for a 200w gpu.

Wow, I'm impressed at how knowledgeable you guys are. You know your Dells.

Can I buy this PSU directly from Dell? Listings on eBay and Amazon are too expensive, about half of what I paid for this PC itself.

Thanks!

PS: The other 4pin on my mobo is unused, what is it for? It says CPU2.

You can buy from Dell.

PWR SPLY,500W,EPA,PLT,MT,CHNY. $109.99

when you use a basic entry level psu of 200w I suppose it has 6+4 pin connector : only one 4 pin. That is understandable. The mobo can power on with only one 4 pin socket plugged in with the 200w psu.  When using a high power 500w psu, both 4 pin sockets of mobo need to be plugged in.

Dang, $110 just for the PSU. I bought a 600W square-shaped PSU in 2012 for $25 (which I still have). This won't do.

I guess I'll have to go the adapter route.

Will this work?

You said for a high power PSU, the 6 pin and both the 4 pin sockets need to be connected, so will the above adapter be insufficient?

You can use 24-6 adapter

user validated one on Amazon

The 24 pin ATX psu you use need to have two identical 4 pin cpu connectors

this is not the same as 8 pin EPS connector

some 24 ATX psu has only 8 pin EPS
