Hi joetheiss:

Is it possible you accidentally muted the sound on your computer?  From my Inspiron 5584 system tray when sound is muted:

If not, what is your Windows OS [if Win 10 or Win 11 include the version and OS build number - open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver] and antivirus, and what is the make/model and current driver version of the sound card in your Vostro 3910 shown in Device Manager **?  Do you have a utility like SupportAssist v4.x or Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x installed on your system, and if so does a check for updates find any available updates ***?  From my Inspiron 5584, which has a Realtek High Definition Audio card with driver v6.0.8940.1 :

** NOTE: While viewing the properties of your sound card in Device Manager also check the device status on the General tab.  It should report "This Device is working properly".

If I choose the Find Drivers link on your "old" Vostro 3910 support page at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/vostro-3910-desktop/drivers it lists a Cirrus Logic High Definition Audio Driver (v6.6001.4.18 released 09-Jan-2024) but you should go to https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/products and enter your unique Service Tag (which should open your newly redesigned support page) to confirm that Cirrus sound card matches your specific system components.

*** WARNING: I would also advise that you do NOT allow a Dell utility like SupportAssist v4.x or Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x to update your BIOS, since any glitch during the update process could leave your system unbootable. If SupportAssist v4.x is installed see the instructions <here> in the SupportAssist v4.0 User Guide for disabling automatic updates - if you run update checks manually from the  Home tab of SupportAssist this will allow you to review the list of available updates and decline any BIOS update before it starts to download.

When Dell releases a critical update for my Inspiron 5584 BIOS I normally save the .exe installer recommended on the Drivers & Downloads tab of my Inspiron 5584 support page to my desktop, close all my open programs, and then right-click the .exe file and choose "Run as Administrator".  However, the safer method is to flash your BIOS from a removable USB stick.
