Inaccessible Boot Device after Bios Update

Problem (Ongoing - please read)
Unable to boot following BIOS update from version A09 to A11  (Vostro 270)
Stop Code; Inaccessible Boot Device

Symptoms & Dialogs
“Your PC ran into a problem and it needs to restart”
Reboots - same error message
Restarts - “Preparing Auto Repair” “Diagnosing your PC” Automatic repair couldn’t repair your PC”
Defaults to Advanced Options

Selecting System Restore allows selection of several previous restore points. Choosing one of the earlier dates, System Restore will run, completes with a success notification then system restarts and successfully opens windows.

IF the system is turned off, this sequence starts all over again. I can eventually get back to the same restore point and do this all over to get up and running again but need something permanent.

Log file directs me to D:\windows\system\logfiles\srt\srttrail.txt
I do not have a D: drive but instead this file has been written in my C: drive
All other tests listed in the log file were ok.
Could there be BIOS a setting that has redirected the boot to D: instead of C: if so, where could this be checked and fixed.?
All help greatly appreciated.

There are several Options for SATA Operation

IRRT

AHCI

ATA

"“Your PC ran into a problem and it needs to restart” is  STOP 7B Inaccessable Boot Device.

Advanced format Drives REQUIRE F6 drivers in order to install.

Clear the CMOS

Set Bios to ATA and Try that.   If not working Set to AHCI and try that.

As a Last Resort Set to IRRT which would require F6 drivers and INTEL RST installed in order to work.

You did not mention what OS aka XP/VISTA/7/8/10

F6 drivers are required for ALL of these.

I was unable to easily find a solution for this and the problem continued for a few weeks. After any reboot it was back to square one, having to run a system restore as a last option to get up and running again.

Finally got a tech guy in to see it he had any ideas.  He installed a packet of updated Dell Drivers, tried changing SATA settings in the BIOS, all to no avail. Then he tried system restore and the one restore point that previously worked had been deleted.  The oldest remaining restore point fail to revive the PC. It looked dead now.

His solution was basically to scrap the computer and migrate files to a new PC or another spare in my office. :(

In frustration, I decided to check a few last solutions suggested in a few postings I found.  I opened the machine, and went through steps to clear the CMOS, reset the BIOS and clear NVRAM.  I pulled the battery and then reset the bios by resetting the the CMOS pins. After reinstalling the battery, powering up the machine in this configuration,  powering it down again and resetting the pins to the original position, the **bleep** thing miraculously booted property into Win10Pro.

I doubt if the driver updates actually resolved the issue but perhaps that helped. Getting into the motherboard was the solution.

Maybe this will work for you.

Instructions to make these changes are at

To locate the pins on your motherboard, download your Dell model owners manual.
