Inaccessible Boot device after Bios update
Problem (Ongoing - please read)
Unable to boot following BIOS update from version A09 to A11 (Vostro 270)
Stop Code; Inaccessible Boot Device
Symptoms & Dialogs
“Your PC ran into a problem and it needs to restart”
Reboots - same error message
Restarts - “Preparing Auto Repair” “Diagnosing your PC” Automatic repair couldn’t repair your PC”
Defaults to Advanced Options
Selecting System Restore allows selection of several previous restore points. Choosing one of the earlier dates, System Restore will run, completes with a success notification then system restarts and successfully opens windows.
IF the system is turned off, this sequence starts all over again. I can eventually get back to the same restore point and do this all over to get up and running again but need something permanent.
Log file directs me to D:\windows\system\logfiles\srt\srttrail.txt
I do not have a D: drive but instead this file has been written in my C: drive
All other tests listed in the log file were ok.
Could there be BIOS a setting that has redirected the boot to D: instead of C: if so, where could this be checked and fixed.?
All help greatly appreciated.

When was last time you replaced the motherboard battery?
When you get that inaccessible error, reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup. See if your boot hard drive is correctly recognized on the SATA0 port. And see if BIOS is set to UEFI or Legacy boot, but do NOT change anything.
Then reboot and immediately press F12. Look for the option to run the diagnostics and run the extended hard drive tests. Copy error messages, if any.

Most common reason for STOP 7B is SATA OPERATION IN THE DRIVES from F2 BIOS SETTING set to AHCI INSTEAD OF ATA or RAID AHCI or INTEL RRT instead of RAID ATA or ATA. If your CR2032 battery is dying it can reset this to an unhappy value.
This applies to XP VISTA 7 8 10 version of windows.
