Dell Vostro 470 Desktop Case Fan

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering how many fans I can add to my Dell desktop Vostro 470?

I removed the DVD drive and I installed two 3.5" internal hard drives on an adapter, but I feel the computer is a little bit hot at the top, and I was thinking about adding one more cooling fan to cool the two hard drives, but I'm not sure how many fans can be connected to this computer.

Can you please tell me how many cooling fans I can add on this Desktop Vostro 470?

Thanks.

You and I have the same chassis.  In my Precision 3620, a 90mm blue led fan is super glued on top of the HDD cage.  Since I don't use a GPU card, I super glued another 80mm blue led fan in the back bottom of the case.  I did the same thing when I had an Optiplex 7010 (same chassis).

Both fans have a 4-pin molex connector.  I used a SATA power to molex splitter adapter to plug into one of the SATA power ports.

@bradthetechnut

I guess you are confused.

I don't have the same chassis as you that you have.

My computer is a Vostro 470, not a Precision 3620.

My computer in the back has an original cooling fan with a 4-pin small pin connector.

It's impossible to add another cooling fan in the back because the computer already has one cooling fan in the back and the extra cooling has to be at the top of the computer and not in the back.

I'm not trying to connect a cooling fan with a SATA power connector, that's not my intention.

The cooling fan with a SATA power connector makes a lot of noise because it only works at high speed and that's too noisy for me.

@bradthetechnut Okay, I get it now.

Thank you for the illustrative clarification.

@bradthetechnut Is your computer very noisy with the extra fan that you installed using the SATA power connector?

No.  The 2 fans I added are Thermaltake.  I think both have a variable speed switch.  Some PC fans also have 3 speed switches.  I just let both run at max and noise is minimal.  Not noticeable at all with music playing.  You can always adjust to suit your taste.

If you feel some warmth at the top of the case where the HDD's are inside the case, that's normal.  If top was getting warm-hot or hot to the touch, that would be something else.

I think you noticed you can still add a fan on top of the bottom HDD cage.  By the way, some 5.25" to HDD adapters have fans.

Yeah, just transfer your 470 to a cougar mid tower ATX case.

I have 5 case fans total.

case transfers are the best way to efficiently maximize fan usage.

Gamedias right now on amazon is selling a mid tower case with 4 RGB case fans.  Its a ridiculously low price.  The case fans alone are $25 for the set.
