Dell Vostro 3900G MT BIOS and DVD-ROM Firmware Updates
I am only a Bronze Star so feel free to ignore this post.
I understand there are three ways to update the BIOS and DVD-ROM firmware.
1. Via Windows (Dell Recommendation)
2. Via DOS (e.g. using a Rufus-created flash drive, containing the BIOS and firmware update files)
3. Via DOS (e.g. using a Dell DDDP-created flash drive, containing the BIOS and firmware update files)
My experience was.
Option 1: PC performance became sluggish and the DVD-ROM firmware update caused unbelievable casing vibration.
Option 2: Memory transfer speed improved by 0.22 GB/sec and the DVD-ROM drive caused less casing vibration.
Option 3. The most time-consuming option. I downloaded the DDDP package from https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-us/sln143196/how-to-create-a-bootable-usb-flash-drive-using-dell-diagnostic-deployment-package-dddp?lang=en
Next, I created the USB and added the BIOS and DVD-ROM firmware update files.
After installation, memory transfer speed improved dramatically and the DVD-ROM drive is as quiet as a mouse.
