Dell Vostro 200 floppy drive failure
Hey!
I am one of these users that still use floppy disks for fun and I had this EPSON SMD-300 lying around and I decided to try it. Unfortunately, the drive didn't appear to work as while it read disks formatted in that drive, it wouldn't read any disks formatted in other drives(such as a Sony Vaio drive) or official microsoft diskettes. I have tried different cabled(ones with only the 3.5inch on then and the older ones with 5.25 and 3.5 inch connectors) and when I install it in the case(without a drive bracket), it stopped turning on just giving a horrible beep code and would only stop if i turned it off and removed the disk drive.
P.S : I have tested the Sony drive with the checkit program and it appears to be fine.

floppy disk drive being very old tech is often found in nonworking or not completely working condition. Even when Windows recognize the drive, it does not mean the drive is working well. Have seen a number of fdd do that.
Try use tested working dell oem fdd if still interested.
