Can't Find Suitable Replacement for Vostro 3900G Mini Tower
My Vostro 3900G Mini Tower is near dead but Dell (in their infinite wisdom) discontinued this type and I can't find anything else.
The only Dell PCs I owned and liked were Optiplex, Dimension and Vostro desktops and an Inspiron 15 laptop.
I am looking for a basic mini tower (like the Vostro 3900G MT), with micro ATX system board, standard ATX PSU (so I can again replace the poor Dell effort), Intel Core i7 (10th or 11th gen), 2 x 4GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD (no HDD), USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports + 2 x USB 2.0 ports for the keyboard and mouse (if necessary), GPU with DVI connection, no Wifi, OS, or Dell and other apps.
My budget is max. US$ 1,000.
Perhaps I should wait for the DDR5 PCs if they ever arrive or shop for another brand.
Any recommendations would be very much appreciated..

There isn't a current Dell with 10th or 11th gen for that price.

for modern intel 10-11th gen cpu Dell does not offer standard ATX psu except in Alienware series. All optiplex, xps, vostro using the cpu have proprietary TFX psu (6 pin). you may have to build a system yourself to meet these requirements.

Many thanks. I had a look at a new XPS and wondered about overheating. Its much more powerful than my Vostro and yet the case is noticeably smaller...

Many thanks for this very useful info,
My only beef with Dell PCs is the PSUs. The PSU in my Dimension 9150 failed just three weeks from new. I have had two replacement PSUs so far for the Vostro 3900G Mini Tower.

The XPS are fine EXCEPT for the G5 XPS 8940 Optiplex 7080 etc which have tiny proprietary power supply and 500W max.
Thats why the Precision 3620 3630 3640 are better due to having 1000W power supply options.
Precision 3640 would have 10th gen cpu but it wont be $1000 with I7 and 1000W power supply and 120W or more cpu.

Many thanks for this very useful information, speedstep.
You say the latest Dell desktops use proprietary PSUs and research seems to confirm this ( I misunderstood that Dell had abandoned this questionable practice a decade ago.)
I won't be buying any more Dell PCs with pp PSUs. Sayonara to Dell after 20 years...
