XML API & VNX Arrays

I have a number of VNX based storage arrays and I'm looking to interact with them programmatically, they are all VNX 5100, 5300 and 5500 units running in block storage mode.

Does anyone know if the XML API or other API can be used with these units, given we don't have unified storage and control station I'm not sure what the options are, if any.

You can use the Command Line Interface (CLI) to control/query the Block-only array.

correct - the XML API is only available if you have a file or unified model.

Theoretically you could use the SMI-S block API - however that needs an external SMI-S provider to be installed and most likely is too much work unless you are already familiar with SMI-S programming.

your best choice is the VNX block CLI

If you want just reporting it could make sense to go though UniSphere Central.

That should support a REST API in the future.
