Windows server 2016 IO performance??

Hi

We have installed windows server 2016 standard edt. on a lenovo x3550 M5, with boot from SAN from a

VNX 5200 v. 5.33. Copy of a file is extremely slow. latency high on disk IO.

same hardware with 2012R2 no problems.

anyone with suggestions, or similar experience?

What should we look for?

regards

How is the host connected to the array? Are you using iSCSI or FC?

If you're using iSCSI you'll need to disable the TCP Delayed ACK -

This is the article for Windows 2012 - it may be similar to 2016 - I do not have a Windows 2016 to check the registry settings to verify if this is correct.

To add to the above, Microsoft recommends that you use Robocopy instead of drag/drop for copying larger files. You'll get much better performance.

Thank you

All the above qustions are very valid, and we will look into them, and no file transfer is not an exact way of meassure, but when latency is 5 times higher on 2016 than on 2012 it is an indicator.

BUT to cut it short, it is the exact same hardware we used for win 2012R2 and there we had no issues. large file copy 8 sec, same file on 2016 1 minut.

So was just wondering if anyone has experience with 2016, any whitepapers or driver versions we should use.

ODX

does that ring any bells?

If we change FilterSupportedFeaturesMode =1 (from 0)

it performs much better

ODX is enabled when the setting is 0 (default) and disabled when set to 1. If the 5200 is running patch update 155 (33.155) then enabling ODX should improve certain operations and from what you said, it appears to help with file copy.

On the VNX2 there was an old issue with ODX that was fixed in release 33 patch update 155.
