VNXe3150 Cannot delete shared folder server

Hello,

I have a VNXe3150. There is a shared folder server (CIFS) on each SP. The shared folders on SPB are not accessible from any Windows client, but I can ping this server. I also cannot delete this shared folder server on SPB.

I can create, access and delete additional shared folder servers on SPA or SPB, create accessible shared folders and then delete everything again. Without any problems. But there is this one shared folder server on SPB which cannot be deleted and also cannot deliver accessible shared folders.

Error messages on GUI and in cli:

1:    Message ID  = 14:160023

      Description = Couldn't delete a shared folder server 'datapool'.

      Severity    = error

      Time        = 2021-06-30 09:29:35.389

      Node        = spa

      Account     = Local/admin

      Component   = NasServices

2:    Message ID  = 14:160002

      Description = System Error: The operation could not be completed. See system logs for details. (Error Code:0x60008d7)

      Severity    = error

      Time        = 2021-06-30 09:29:34.422

      Node        = spa

      Account     = Local/admin

      Component   = NasServices

Things I tried and searched for:
- Health check is ok
- there is no replication
- restart of SPB, re-image of SPB, restart of whole VNXe

Maybe the problem is rooted somewhere else. When I used ssh peer to use SPB directly, I could not enter commands without an error message: The system was unable to connect to the storage server. (Error Code:0x100000a).

Thanks for your help!

Hello grarbeit,

Here is a link to a KB that maybe of assistance.

Thanks for your answer. The shares are not part of a domain. I use a workgroup. This workgroup works fine with the shared folder hosted on the SPA. In the KB article the problem is about leading zeroes in the CIFS name. I named it 'Files'. That should not be a problem.

Update: I cannot create another shared folder server on SPB. Though, there is an entry in the server list. But the status is unknown. In the column Domain/Workgroup, it says: not configured. If I edit this, an error appears after about 15 minutes. It seems that I also cannot delete this new shared folder server.

SPB is hosting nothing important. Is there another way to delete every server on SPB?

Thanks for your help!

Hello grarbeit,

Is SPB online in unisphere?  What alerts are showing in unisphere?  In most cases that I have seen when you can’t create a folder on the server there is an issue with the SP or the connection to the SP.

Hello Sam,

in Unisphere the SPB is online, status ok. If I want to enter commands via ssh on SPB it doesn't work, error message in my initial post. Commands via ssh on SPA works fine.

Is there a way to reset/repair the connection to SPB? Or do I have to use the paper clip 10 seconds at the rear of the device?

Kind regards

Hello grarbeit,

You will need to use a paper clip to reset the SPB.

Hello Sam,

unfortunately, the reset with a paper clip did not help. Yesterday, I had some more time for this. Via ssh I saw some behaviors that help to analyze the problem. I used the service account and command line interface on SPA.

- uemcli /net/nas/server show -detail: works fine
- uemcli /stor/prov/fs/cifs show: error -> The requested object could not be found on the system. Recheck the command name.

Other commands produced the same error. I copied the commands from the official CLI guide.

Kind regards

Hello grarbeit,

The best way to know what is going on is to review the logs to see why the error is happening, and also see why you can’t delete the shared folder.  If your system was still under warranty, then we could review them.

Deleting a share removes any files and folders associated with the share from the system. You cannot use snapshots to restore the contents of a share.

Hello Sam,

I went through some logs.

In the cmd_log.err I often found entries like these:

2021-07-01 10:17:52.219 server_3:0:13158:I: /nas/bin/server_cifs server_3 -delete standalone=DATAPOOL -remove_localgroup: Input/output error Internal MAC Socket Error 10: Connection timeout:
2021-07-05 12:58:55.482 server_3:0:2909:E: server_cifs server_3 -delete standalone=DATAPOOL: Input/output error Internal MAC Socket Error 10: Connection timeout:

In sys_log I often found entries like these:

1625491669     100397481995 FS_ID 0x3 22 COMMAND /nas/bin/nas_fsck -start id=3 -mark
1625491669     83223969803 COMMAND /nas/bin/nas_fsck -start id=16 -mark 8 ERROR_STRING Error 4118: : filesystem root_fs_common is not mounted read-write

DATAPOOL is the name of the shared folder server on SPB.

@Micheal

In the GUI there are no shared folder on SPB. I tried to check it via ssh but the commands where not accepted. This is part of the problem.

Kind regards

Hello Sam,

thanks for your help. Which command line interface did you use? I used putty + ssh + uemcli.

service@(none) spa:~> uemcli server_cifs ALL
Storage system address: 127.0.0.1
Storage system port: 443
HTTPS connection

Operation failed. Error code: 0x1000300

Most commands of the official guide are not working:

https://mydocuments.emc.com/pub/en-us/emc-vnxe-series/3.1/vxe-p-cli-user-guide/vxe_p_cli_user_guide_GUID-D949BA0C-115A-4497-BCB0-657A0423ECB5_5.pdf

Is this caused by an authorization issue? Via ssh I am forced to use user service. Via unisphere GUI I use the administrator (not operator or storage operator)

Kind regards

Hello grarbeit,

You should be able to run those commands from CLI.  Since you are not able to then there is a deeper issue that is needing to be resolved. You should be able to run all the commands while in service mode.
