VNXe 3150 Drive Firmware Questions
Hi all.
First post! OK, so I have an old EMC VNXe 3150 loaded with 600GB SAS drives. I am by no means an expert on this thing. But I will be pulling it from production soon. However, I am going to repurpose it for another use that is not mission critical. So I'm just kind of fiddling around with it after ignoring it largely for a few years, and I had some questions, hopefully easy ones...
Naturally, it is long-since out of any kind of warranty and not under a maintenance agreement. Here's my current info:
So here are my questions...
1. Do I have the latest software version? Logging into my portal, I'll be damned if I can figure out whether or not there is a new release; it's all so confusing.
2. The drives themselves are all on different firmware. How do I know what the latest firmware even is? Do ANY of them have it? How do I get them all on the same, latest firmware? Is it installed per drive one at a time?
There's no rush on any of this, but I could use some guidance. Thanks!
Chris

Hello Chris,
Here is the link to the latest version of software for VNXe 3150. https://download.emc.com/downloads/DL81287_VNXe-Operating-Environment-(MR4-SP4.3---2.4.4.22638-).gpg?source=OLS
Here is the link to hard drive firmware as well. https://download.emc.com/downloads/DL58267_VNXe-series-1---Drive-Firmware-v2.gpg?source=OLS
You will use Unishpere to update the drive firmware. When you go to upgrade the firmware and browse the file it will look at all the drives & see which ones need to be upgraded, & then will upgrade the drives one at a time.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello, Sam! Thank you for your reply. I have successfully updated to version 2.4.4.22638. Thanks!
Regarding the drive firmware, I'm not so sure... I did it, but I don't know what to make of the results... On the one hand, got a "success" message, including the email from the VNXe. BUT... All the versions are exactly the same. Nothing changed. The image I posted before showing the drives and their FW versions is still exactly the same. Huh?
So... Is that normal? Am I missing something? For some reason, I can't post screenshots, but will keep trying. Thanks!

Yes,but when I access nothing appears, only manuals.
Maybe you have access to those files because you are employed or I don't know what is happening.

Is there a required upgrade path to upgrade a VNXe from 2.4.4.22283 to 2.4.5.23339?

Hello acitsupport,
The following is from the release notes.
“Installation instructions and upgrade considerations for this service pack
remain the same as the ones noted for the previous release. For more
information on installation instructions, considerations before
upgrading, or upgrading to a service pack, refer to the EMC VNXe Series

Hi Sam,
VNXe3150 OE 2.4.5.23339 (Mon Nov 18 11:54:17 GMT+0100 2019).
Drive upgrade package: VNXe-series-1-Drive-Firmware_10-12-15_v2.tgz.bin.
I run into the same problem, 600 GB drives firmware levels ES10-ES0F and ES0E.
Used mentioned drive upgrade package, upgrade run fine, no change of disk firmware.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advanced.

Hello xamrekkeb,
The drives will only upgrade the firmware to match your OE environment. If there are newer drive firmware, then you need to make sure that it is not for a newer OE.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
