VNX5400 - drive removal/relocation to another array
I would like to know if it is possible to remove SAS drives from a VNX5400 array and add them into a VNX5600 array at different site.
Both arrays are running the same code version 05.33.009.5.186
The reason is that both arrays have 17 x 600Gb SAS 15k drives in them.
Due to expansion / reconfiguration we would like to take all the 17 x 600Gb SAS 15k from the VNX5400 and relocate them into the VNX5600, and then fully utilise them better.
They are being used currently, but if it is feasible, the data and Luns will be migrated off, where we can then delete the Pool that they are in, and which will then unbind the drives and make them available for other uses.
Relocate them to VNX5600 making a total of 34 for use.
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance.

in general yes - if they are checked against the drive compatibility matrix
But you need to work that through your local support to ensure that our site data and warranty status is updated

The drives on the source array are the same models, and running the same version of firmware on them as the target array. So from that point, don't believe there should be an issue. Appreciate what you say about site data and warranty, just waiting on confirmation from vendor on this. Thanks

I'm trying to do something very similar by replacing SAS drives on our 5500 with SSDs from our 5300. Hopefully they offer some code to run so the system doesn't freak out when a different drive type is introduced.
