VNX5300 Unified - Unable to get SP event logs after OE upgrade
Hello DELL-EMC specialists,
I would like to get your help for a management problem that I am trying to resolve :
VNX5300 Unified : original situation : OE 05.32.000.5.221 / 7.1.80.3.
The system was operating normally.
I have updated the OE with USM : 7.1.80.3 -> 7.1.82.0 and after Rel. 221 to Rel. 225.
The procedures were successful.
But after several verifications, I see that SPB event logs cannot be read. The window opens, but no log at all.
SPA event logs are available.
From the Control Station, naviseccli getlog commands are working :
naviseccli -h 192.168.5.200 -user sysadmin -password sysadmin -scope 0 getlog >c:\spalogs.txt
naviseccli -h 192.168.5.201 -user sysadmin -password sysadmin -scope 0 getlog >c:\spblogs.txt
The event logs are also available with the Unisphere GUI via the SP diagnostic port.
I suppose that the SP are operating normally, and there is a wrong setup in the Control Station.
Could you just give me some ways to investigate, if you have got this problem already ?

try restarting the SP mangement service through the setup page

Hello Rainer,
Thank you for your feedback, sorry for the delay.
I went to my customer to run the restart management server action, without success.
The problem is still the same.
I will check this situation on one of my systems, and I will come back to you.
The system was working fine with OE 05.32.000.5.221 and 7.1.79.8. (Target version).
Then I have updated to 7.1.82.0 successfully.
The problem was met for the first time when I have updated the storage with OE 05.32.000.5.225.

If an SP reboot doesnt help I suggest you open a service request

Hello Rainer,
Thank you for your feedback. I am now back on the Customer site to solve this problem.
I have opened a SR for this problem, and the solution is to upgrade the system to the latest revision.
The target version is 05.32.000.5.249 / 7.1.83.2.
Problem Identification:
Attempting to use the following while in the Unisphere GUI may not produce any output:
1."SP Event Logs" events are not displayed for peer Storage Processor
2."Get Diagnostic Files" cannot get diagnostic files for peer Storage Processor
3."Retrieve Archive" NAR files cannot be retrieved for the peer Storage Processor
4."Server Certificate" or "Certificate" under LDAP configuration – Certificates cannot be displayed.
Cause
This issue is caused by an incompatibility in the ECOM library used in R32.225.
Change
Array was recently upgraded to R32.225
Resolution
Use Naviseccli commands to get SPCollects, logs and NAR files by targeting each SP.
Eg:
naviseccli -h SP(A|B) spcollect to generate SPCollects
naviseccli -h SP(A|B) managefiles -list to see the SPCollect files available to download
naviseccli -h SP(A|B) managefiles -retrieve to get the SPCollects
naviseccli -h SP(A|B) analyzer -archive -list to see the NAR files and
naviseccli -h SP(A|B) analyzer -archiveretrieve -file to get the files
naviseccli -h SP(A|B) getlog to get all the logs
naviseccli -h SP(A|B) security -certificate -list to display all the certificates.
The issue is fixed in VNX1 OE 05.32.000.5.249
We suggest to upgrade to version 05.32.000.5.249 where issue is fixed.
So, I have downloaded the needed files, and I proceed with USM for OE for file first.
The health check is completely green.
The pre upgrade checks are successful : Total 98, finished 98, warnings 2.
Warning 1 : check for mail messages
Warning 2 : Auto transfer status
The preparation phase is successfully completed.
When running the upgrade, it stops at 95 % of the copy upgrade package step.
In the upgrade log, I see that the process is paused.:
Paused state detected; advance wizard to upgrade screen.
Please could you give me some subjects to investigate, to run this software upgrade successful ?

When you finish upgrading the array to the corrected version, if it all works would you please mark you question as "Answered" - that way someone else looking for this same issue can find your solution.
