vnx5200 fans ramp up periodically - normal?

Hello,

We have a VNX5200 and we've noticed (we sit right outside of our data room separated by glass) fans ramping up periodically.  Initially I thought it was a Dell FX2 server platform in the rack, but today when this happened I went in and for sure it was coming from the VNX5200 brains (the 2U device behind the EMC plate with the blue LED strip on it).

Is this just a routine normal excerise that is randomly performed to test the fans and airflow sensors?  Anyone else experience this?

I had noticed the same thing on my VNXe3200.  Every once in a while, the fans would sound like the are running at full speed for a few minutes.  Funny thing is that I only have noticed this on Saturdays while I am working on other things.  The first time that I noticed it happening I called support and they logged on and looked at the logs.  They saw that the VNXe3200 had reported an over temperature condition on one of the SP's.  The other one was normal.  They ended up replacing the SP due to a supposibly faulty sensor.

The fan issue happened again last Saturday.  Nothing logged in Unisphere and I did not report it to EMC.  I'd be curious to know if others are seeing this too.

Best Regards.

On the weekends the array will do a battery check - that may be increasing the temp in the chassis and causing the fans to increase air flow. But unless it is when a power supply faults or some other fault, it may be normal.
