Vnx network change
Thanks in advance. Need a bit of advice. Have unified vnx5500 . Responsibility for networks is changing to new company. Looks like Big Bang approach and all network connections (server, storage, Nas, etc) being moved from previous network supplier network switches to new supplier switches. All ip addresses remaining the same - so hopefully network will be as was just on new switches.
is it best to leave vnx powered on whilst network/nas cables are moved. Or is best to power down and then back up after physical network changes. Or are there alternative methods best, e.g leaving powered up but making sure nas on each datamover is stopped before changes?
by the Way we have 3 datamovers (1 used as standby), 2 control stations, small san, vdm’s under which smb only cifs servers, datamover and control station failover setup. Was setup by emc about 8 years ago and not been changed much since. We perform admin functions but not experts knowledge wise.
any gotchas we need to think about.?
any advice appreciated

Hello Klee1961,
Here is a link to a knowledge base article that explains How to configure routes for a VNX Data Mover. https://dell.to/38jXmNq,
Here is also a link to Configuring Virtual Data Movers on VNX guide as well. https://dell.to/37cEGOf
Last here is a link to Configuring and Managing Networking on VNX® https://dell.to/2tLHeW9

Thanks for the reply. We are not re-configuring any routes, VDM's, etc. Basically it is a movement of existing network cables (CS, NAS, servers, etc) from one set of cisco switches to another set (only a few feet away). At the end of the cable moves there will be no change to IP addresses, etc. At the end of the process the VNX network cables will be plugged into new switches without any changes on the VNX. I was really asking whether it was advisable to power the VNX 5500 down whilst the work was being carried out or whether it will be ok leaving it up and running and then checking it after the move to new switches.

Hello Klee1961,
I am sorry I misread what you were asking. You can move cables while your VNX5500 is online & running. As long as you have multipathing setup and you move one side of the cables at a time everything should be fine to move.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately it is a big bang approach. All of the datacentre network is being moved to new cisco switches in one go (VNX, servers (incl dns and ntp), tape libs, etc).
Basically the new network provider has copied the network config from the current suppliers switches onto their new cisco switches. On a friday evening their network patching team will be repatching the network cables for all kit into the new switches. Once the work is complete then it's our job to check whether all is ok (servers, storage, etc)
It has been suggested to us that it should be ok to leave the VNX switches on but i'm not sure as i've never done this before and i'm certainly not a qualifed VNX expert though we can perform a lot of the basics. With your knowledge would you leave the VNX switched on or is it recommended to have a control shutdown, wait until the network changes are done and the likes of the domain control, dsn and ntp servers are back and running ok and then power on up the VNX??. Also, any advice on what should be checked after power up. First thing i would probably do is run a nas_checkup and look at Unisphere to see if there are any issues.!! Any advice appreciated. Oh, and this is the first of three datacentres we are doing - all have VNX.

Hello Klee1961,
Since you are doing that much change, I would power your VNX5500 down while you are making changes. Once you power your VNX5500 back on then you should be able to go into Unisphere and check confirm that you have all connections are active. Here is a link to the power down process for your VNX5500. https://dell.to/2Hk0o8D Here is also the power up process. https://dell.to/2Hk0o8D
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
