VNX HBA speed

Hi people, is there a way to configure one VNX 5200 f.c. port speed to 1GB?

I need to use it ( for mirroring )  on a Fiber Channel over IP  devices ( mcdata1620) thats have 1GB input SFP. I've set the VNX HBA speed to 2GB / mcdata set to autonegotiate but it doesn't works. Any idea?

thanks for you support.

on a VNX5200 the four-port 8-Gb/s FC I/O module (labelled 8 GbE Fibre on the latch handle) comes with four optical (fibre) ports, one power/fault LED, and a link/activity LED for each optical port. This I/O module can interface at speeds of 2, 4, and 8 Gb/s. Sorry no 1Gb/s support.

Unless my memory is playing tricks on me your 5200 would have 8G SFPs in it. 8G FC SFPs can't connect to 1G ports. FC only allows for up or down by two speed factors. 8G can connect down to 4G and 2G. 4G can connect down to 2G and 1G. 16G can only connect down to 8G & 4G.

Oddly enough I just ran into something similar to this in January and I'm not sure that configuration is possible (although I may be wrong).  To configure it the way you're suggesting requires that you change the Interoperability mode on the Brocades to McData Fabric and then allow the McDatas to run the fabric services.  Switching the interop mode on the Brocades will wipe out their configs and you'll have to zone from the McDatas.  If you have the time and these aren't in production then with careful planning you could probably pull it off but it could get messy.  I hope this helps and good luck.

Of course you're right Allen. Thanks. I've done a lot of things, no way to connect the devices.

Another question: using an old fiber channel switch ( likes ds300b ) it can negotiate to 4gb with the VNX and also can negotiate with the mcdata1620 at 1GB speed so, my question is, can I reach 1gb speed using this switch as passthrough?

VNX--> Switch DS300 port1 -> Switch DS300 port2 ---> mc data FC port.

If yes, what type of zoning or port configuration may I use?

Thanks a lot for your support!!

Do you know other hw appliance like MCDATA 1620 ( so, that convert and compress FC to IP ) a that works at 2/4/8GB fc speed and that are compatible with VNX5300/5200 ?

There are several out there, but since you are already running on a Brocade FC switch, the Brocade 7800 would be a good one to look at.  It will handle FCIP and should work in your environment. It might be a bit pricey though.

Would you care to elaborate on what your use case is?  There are other ways to replicate from a VNX aside from FCIP.

Tanks a lot storagetalk.

Maybe we will use the mcdata 2640, the upgrate of mcdata 1620, i saw that the FC SFP is running at 2GB.

Our scope is replicate VNX LUN to another VNX placed into another datacenter ( 40 km far from source ). Between the site there's a lan link ( 200 mbit/ speed ) and this line is not used only for replication pourpouse, so I need something that replicate and compress data.
