VNX default/glocal CIFS server

Hello,

I'm trying to understand A global CIFS server, a default CIFS servr and CIFS server within VDM. We have a eNAS. Now I'm ready VDM doc. It's a little confusing in the doc.

Here is the description in the doc (docu48458)

  1. In addition to CIFS servers that are created within a VDM, a global CIFS server is required for antivirus functionality. A global CIFS server is a CIFS server that is created at the physical Data Mover level.
  2. A default CIFS server and CIFS servers within a VDM cannot coexist on the same Data Mover. A default CIFS server is a global CIFS server that is assigned to all interfaces, and CIFS servers within a VDM require specified interfaces. If a VDM exists on a Data Mover, a default CIFS server cannot be created.

Are they contradict with each other?

We need to use CIFS servers within VDMs, can we still have a global CIFS server for antivirus as point 1 mentioned?

Thanks,

John

default CIFS server is an old construct from the pre-VDM days and shouldnt be used any longer

yes you can still use a global CIFS server together with VDM based CIFS servers and need it for antivirus
