VNX 5500 Management interface
Hi,
We have a VNX 5500. It is out of support, and well on its way to the Data Centre in the Sky. I inherited Storage, including these two boxes which were already 7+ years old a couple of years ago, and have only just put in storage to replace them. I am most of the way through Migrating data off them,
However I have a few LUNS that still have data on them, it has worked perfectly well up to this point and still continues to present LUNS to our ESX Farm using Fibre Channel.
Some time in February the Web Management stopped. I have had a look around the Forum and the actual commands to restart the control station are not plainly evident to me, and I don't want to be the guy that takes a load of stuff down on an unsupported piece of kit, and not be able to get it back.
When you log in you see a line "NAS service is not running. Root privileges are required to run this command."
So I have runs a couple of commands I have found to see if I can spot anything:
/nasmcd/getreason
Output:
11 - slot_0 secondary control station
10 - slot_1 primary control station
5 - slot_2 contacted
5 - slot_3 contacted
In a nutshell what is the best / safest procedure to restart the control Station /s or restart the web service first.
Thanks in advance
Frank

Hello Frank,
How to restart Management Server (CIMOM) on a CLARiiON and VNX system.

http: // xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/setup
Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the Storage Processor (SP).
Note: Some of these symptoms might be resolved by performing this procedure. However, if this procedure does not work, additional troubleshooting may be needed. If you contact EMC Support or your support representative, note any changes that have been made to the environment prior to opening a case.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi,
I am only able to SSH onto the interface - is there any way do reboot the Management Server from there?
I will check to make sure there is IP connectivity - but I am unable to ping the 2 SP addresses or access them from a browser.
a grep xx.xx /etc/hosts shows 3 IP Addresses
10.xxx.xxx.234 A_CKM00123456788 SPA # CLARiiON SP
10.xxx.xxx.235 B_CKM00123456789 SPB # CLARiiON SP
10.xxx.xxx.232 vnx5500.example.com VNX5500
I am only able to SSH on to the .232 address.
Is there an easy way to get the Interface details so I can do some more checks - although physical access to the kit is difficult in these current restrictions.
Thanks in advance
Frank
