Reviving VNX5400

Hi all and first and for most thank you for all the good work you all do.

We have 2 VNX5400 and an EMC UNITY that we retired back in 2018 and now trying to get it back in life for learning and practicing purposes. Warranty and service contracts are expired so trying to get this done on our own and help of our service provider. We powered the VNX up and one of the SP A was not getting power so we took the power supply from the other DR VNX and got the SP A to power up. We are able to get in to CLI and Unisphere and get a bunch of 0x126083021b Critical Errors Enclosure 0 CPU module B DIMM 0 - 5 Faults and also 0x1260830218 Enclosure 0 Fault occurred errors. also Data Mover B is offline and PS for that has a blinking triangle. We are looking to clear all the errors using spare parts from our DR VNX and also default everything to scratch as we are not using our ESXi environment any more we most likely will use this as a NVR storage for our corporate cameras or as a storage for our inhouse IT cloud or smth more as a leraning curve. Any suggestions, ideas or pointers on where to start and so would be appreciated.

Thank You

Hello ProGenY,

What I would do is to pull SPB & reset the memory modules on the SP & then insert back into your VNX.  If that doesn’t work, then you can swap the modules one at a time till it does to see the SP boot.  You can also change all the dimm’s from a working SP as well if you want.  Once you fix the memory issue then you should resolve your data mover issue as well.

Thnx Sam,

Do appreciate your input.

Since we have an identical copy of the one we working on that we used as a DR site i swapped SPB from the other one to the new one and that resolved all the hardware warnings. That still did not bring the data mover up under System>Hardware>Hardware for File the DME 0 Data Mover 3 shows with Errors "The VNX File system has error level alerts which require attention. System alerts are available on the Dashboard of the Unisphere Home page for this VNX File system." under the Alerts i have Event Code 0x330070051 on DME 0 Data Mover 3 then 0x7409 on DPE Bus 0 Enclosure 0 also 0x13608e007b and 0x13608900ca on Database errors. When i login to CLI as nasadmin and read at the log it points me to call EMC Support  "Warning HC_CS_18800050213: NASDB check reported the following errors:
* Error: Non Zero exit Status while running .Server_config for
server_3.
*Action : Please contact EMC Customer Service for assistance. Include
this log with your support request."

Anything i can do from now on that could diagnose this more or even eventually self repair it

Have you tried rebooting the enclosure?

Thank You Josh,

Will try to do a reboot. Is there a proper reboot procedure or just power off from the GUI and then kill power and restore power?
