Replacing Intefaces For CIFS Share - 1GB to 10GB

Good afternoon,

I have a VNX5600 with two data movers that has two unused 2 port 10GB interfaces installed and unused. At this time, the CIFS shares that are running on the VNX are on two 4 port 1GB interfaces. We would like to move the connectivity for these CIFS shares from the 1GB ports to the 10GB ports. We are scheduled to have some downtime on the array and would like to move the workloads in that window.

Would be interested in learning what steps would be involved in moving from the 1GB to the 10GB adapters.

Thank you in advance!

you will need to remove interface from your CIFS server, delete it, re-create it on 10g device.

I you dont mind using a different IP you could also do without downtime:

create new interfaces on the 10GB ports with new IP

add them to the CIFS server

remove the 1GB interfaces from DNS

once the clients have moved over to use the new interfaces (typically when they reconnect due to login or timeout) remove the 1GB interfaces from the CIFS server and delete them

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Some additional information...we want to keep the same IP addresses and as I had mentioned earlier, we will have a window to perform this work in as the environment will be down.

Are there any screen shots of what need to be done? We would like to run this through Unisphere.

Thanks again!

setup a test CIFS server and go through the steps, it's really easy.
