Replace OS on VNXe3150
Hey,
I was wondering if there was any chance I could get help with replacing the operating system on my VNXe3150 with something like Ubuntu server.
With it going EOL at the end of the year, along with Flash, this whole machine is currently a paperweight and doing no one any good. I was hoping I could repurpose it and continue using the perfectly good hardware.
Currently, I can get one of the storage processors to boot into Ubuntu to run commands and everything, but I can't get the backplane or SAS controller to work. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Hi,
Unfortunately, we have not validated any other OSes on it and drivers may not exist for the components.

Is there any way to get the drivers that are being used, even if they aren't validated?
Is there any way to determine exactly what hardware is being used here? It will help tremendously with diagnosis and what can be done with it. I can't find any real details at all, even the motherboard model is just "To filled by O.E.M."

I was not able to find specific hardware specs, you may have a better chance with CentOS since Red Hat is a validated OS. Along with Windows server 2008-2012.

I haven't attempted this yet, but thought I'd ask how you went about getting Ubuntu installed on the SP's? Is it as easy as simply booting of the Ubuntu install media or does this involve some console access trickery as well?
I have 3150 hardware that I'm interested in testing with TrueNAS SCALE. Otherwise, the DPE will be stripped of drives [and perhaps CPU and RAM] which will be merged into the shelf unit, reformatted, and hung of a storage server.

the system is using a custom mainboard and firmware with components not present on off-the-shelf PC hardware so I doubt very much you can get all the hardware working.
Likely you wont even be able to get into the BIOS to get Linux installed
