Re-use Disks between Arrays
We're decommissioning an older VNX2. Just wondering how a different VNX would react if I inserted some of the old disks to use as hot spares?
Would it just zero the drive automatically?

Hello shauntp,
As long as you are inserting them into another vnx2 system you should be ok to use the drives as replacements. You will want to make sure that you have removed all data from the drives to ensure that there are no issues with them when inserted. Which system are you removing the drives from & which system are you going to be using the drives on?

Looking at moving drives (including vault drives) between two VNX5400s.
Do I need to do something on the source VNX to wipe it prior to inserting it into the new VNX?
Cheers
Shaun.

Hello shauntp,
You can replace the vault drive with another drive and should have no issues. I would replace the vault drive with one of the data drives from your second vnx system. If you replace a vault drive with the vault drive from your other system you may run into errors.
It is always best to make sure that the replacement drive is not being used and has no data on it from your second vnx system so that when it is inserted there will be no issues. You can use unisphere to see if the drive is in use or not.
