Physically Accessing the VNX 5300
Hi all,
I have a VNX 5300 which was decommisioned two years ago and is also out of warranty.
Management has came back asking that it needs some data from this storage unit which is still un-racked...
I have been trying to connect to this directly in the server room but i get no where.
Can someone suggest how can i physically access ths and how can i connect to thhe VNX 5300 unit.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your question about how to access the VNX 5300. Do you have Unisphere installed on a management client? This guide should help. https://dell.to/3KqbEyq

Hi Josh,
Thanks for your reply.
Since the client is no longer available. I have installed VNX Unisphere on my laptop. I know the IP address for this storage (which was used to manage this array ealier). this is not the IP of the SP's or the control unit, I believe. I wanted to understand how do I phycically connect my laptop with the storage and how do I then access it.
My management wants to understand if there is any data in the storage that we can utilize.
Should I connect to communication port to manage this directly? if Yes, it should be with COM's? any specific speed. please advise.
Thanks
Saurabh

There are a few details I'd need to help a little bit. Do you have a Block-only VNX, or are there datamovers and control stations, too (Unified VNX) ?
If you have a control station, can you connect to its management LAN port via crossover cable and ping the IP? The control station also has a DB9 serial port, you can access the normal NAS CLI from there.
You won't see much on the serial connection of the SP. There is no way to access unisphere that way.

Hi Josh,
I too have a question about some issues I am having with accessing a VNX5300. Should I start a new discussion or continue on here? I have connected my laptop to the Service LAN Port of SP-A with an RJ-45 cable. I am able to ping 128.221.1.250. Opening a browser and attempting to go to 128.221.1.250 was unsuccessful. Opening "Unisphere Service Manager", clicking on "Login", entering 128.221.1.250 at the "Host name or IP address" field, and the clicking on "Connect" presented me with "The specified system is not reachable or the certificate on the system could not be validated."
Please let me know how to proceed.
Regards,
KMatDELL
