Need some advice on how to replace disks (slightly unusual situation)
My VNX5300 (block) has five enclosures - the first three are in production use; the last two are unused. The first two enclosures have several disk faults as follows (the disks are showing as "removed"):
- Bus 0, Enclosure 0, Disk 1 (replaced by hot spare disk 12 in this enclosure)
- Bus 0, Enclosure 0, Disk 4
- Bus 0, Enclosure 0, Disk 5 (replaced by hot spare disk 6 in this enclosure)
- Bus 0, Enclosure 1, Disk 1
This system is due to be decommissioned, so if possible I need to resolve these issues without buying new disks.
Am I able to physically remove unbound disks from the unused enclosures to replace the four above? If so, are there any commands I need to use in this process? (I have basic knowledge of the NaviSphere CLI.) Or is it literally just a case of: remove "unbound" disk -> remove disk 0_0_1 (for example) -> insert "unbound" disk in 0_0_1 slot?

Hello Mattsg2000,
Here is a link to a KB that maybe of assistance.

You are going to want to replace the disk one at a time & wait for the copy back to finish before replacing a second drive. If you replace all the drives at once you will most likely crash your system.
