Migrating Data CIFS VNXe 3100 question
I have two sites. At both sites I have added an additional 4+2 disks (6 TB), as they will be replicating. This will be used for the CIFS server. Currently the CIFS server is on a windows server. I plan on migrating over 1.7 TB of data over from windows to the VNXe 3100 to use as our file server.
Action Plan:
What I plan on doing is creating 1 share on VNXe 1 and migrating all 1.7 TB of data across keeping the folder structure and permissions. I plan on having this storage increase over the next 3 to 4 year s to about 3-4 TB's.
My question is does anyone see anything wrong by doing this. I know that the maximum LUN capacity in 2 TB, but I am unsure on how that applies here. Please feel free to add suggestions on how I could better prepare the VNXe for the migration. I am unsure if I should create more than 1 share on the VNXe, or if I need to.
your help is appreciated.

I think if the Outlook on client machine is still open, it might reconnect after the server reboot. I'm not 100% sure. Like it reconnects to Exchange server after an outage, it may connect to .pst file too.

Being that some files may be open during the EMcopy of over 1.7 TB, for example. .PST files for email and open word files, do you think I will run in to trouble with those particular files being open? while using EMcopy?

Okay, heres another scenario: If I reboot the files server -which holds .PST and files- will they all then be "closed" when I run the copy?

If any file is open during this operation, it will be skipped. You can see an error message reported for such files in the log.
So, it is recommended to run EMCopy when those files are not in use.
