Expand a VNX file pool (AVM)
Hi there,
I have a CLARSATA_R6 pool which uses 3TB drives and I want to expand it with 4TB drives is this possible? I set the pool up using AVM.
Thanks,
Ed

I believe that you can expand a Pool that has 3TB NL-SAS with new disks that are 4TB NL-SAS. The only caution I would make it to make sure you expand the Pool using the same number of disks that each Private Raid group is currently using.
If you originally used 10 NL-SAS to create the Pool, the array would configure those 10 disks into an 8+2 Raid 6 private raid group within the Pool. When you expand you would use multiple of 10 (10, 20, 30, etc). That way the internal raid configuration within the Pool is kept consistent and provides the best performance.

You can indeed, but it's long been a recommendation to expand by drives of the same rotational speed and capacity.
This is in addition to expanding using the same RAID drive-count as per Glen's reply.
