Erase Data on VNX5300
HI Guys,
is there any tool from EMC available to erase secure the data from a VNX5300?
I'm looking for an official way and not a third Party tool!
We must return our VNX to the leasingcompany.

yes EMC does offer a data erasure service that supports the 5300
Its a professional service offering with custom hw/sw that should also provide certificates
please contact your local EMC or partner sales for pricing

Hi,
I found this online.
Is this equivalent to the PS-Service? What do this command exactly?
naviseccli -h zerodisk -messner getzeromark

no - its not
the PS service uses different hardware and software to ensure certified data erasure
our PS tools do multiple overwrites and also cover the disks reserved for the VNX OE
the above is an old internal command that wont zero any data - it just shows the status of zerodisk

These commands still work:
zerodisk -messner all start
zerodisk -messner all status

It may work, but it's not a "secure" erase.

What if you do it 7 times?

even if you do it 777 times its still not enough for some security regulations
if it feels secure enough for you thats fine - we wont guarantee it

Would deleting the various storage pools and reshuffling the disks help with ensuring data is not retrievable?

Hi,
It wouldn’t hurt to do that.
