Enabling Data Deduplication on EMC VNX

I believe that deduplication may need a license. Check in Unisphere, there is a section that lists what is currently installed, the Help section should also point you to where dedupe is located in Unisphere. If it's not there, then you probably need a license.

If you have your serial# you can use your Serial Number and go to the Licensing.emc.com site and you'll be able to see your entitlements.  In most cases if the enable box is grayed out then you may need a license.  If the box is not greyed out, then you should be able to enable it.

Hi, I know is passed a long time ago from this post, although I still using a VNX5400, and I have a question, i there  any risk in enable de deduplication with a LUN with backup data production?.

Hi, josh, I have an additional questions, is necessary create a new LUN to enable the deduplication, I have enabled it yesterday and the uniphere console show the duplication  status like "pending" and the shared capacity increasing (see image attached).

On the other hand, I read a white paper (h12209-vnx-deduplication-compression-wp), that make mentions that to enable the de duplication on a classic LUN , we need migrate the data to a LUN with deduplication enabled (see the seconda attached image please.

Your images didn’t attach correctly. It is recommended to do it on a lun with deduplication enabled at creation of the lun, but I didn’t think it was required. If you can try to do it on a new lun. How full is the lun? Are there any errors in the logs?

@DELL-Josh Cr​ Sorry for the images, I have a unique LUN that cover all the pool storage, so I can't create another LUN. I dont know why, but I cant attach images, something is not working. Another may be an obvious question is, The duplication process  is between LUNs? o you have deduplication inside the LUNs. My question is because of the documentation only talk about the deduplication between LUNs.
