Hello MaxPower1

Looking at your errors it looks like the system is doing a battery test. Are your BBU still showing as faulted or are they at full capacity? How often are you receiving the error? Have you replaced the BBU on each controller recently?

@DELL-Sam L,
The status of my BBU changes several times a day. There may be no error for some time, but this error returns sooner or later. If we talk about the frequency of this error, it can appear 2-3 times a day. Most of the time their status is faulted.

No, I did not change the BBU on the controllers recently.

Hello MaxPower1,

Based on the BBU not being changed and how often you are receiving the error, I would replace the BBU on each controller then do a battery test if one doesn’t start after the replacements, and confirm that the fualts go away and the BBU health returns back to normal and BBU’s are 100% healthy.

@DELL-Sam L,

Thank you for your replay. I'll try to do this in the near future.

I heard from other forums that firmware upgrade can help with this problem. At least it can increase the chance that my problem is happening because of the BBU and not because of the software issue.

Would you recommend try to upgrade my VNX5200 firmware before replace BBUs ?

Hello MaxPower1,

It is best to replace your BBU before doing any firmware upgrades. By doing the firmware upgrade first can cause additional issues and may not resolve your BBU issue.

pls. use speclcli -getbatterystatus to check battery status. It is most likely that both BBU failed.

@tianchou,

Thanks for the advice, but my problem is very intermittent. Some days the batteries report a “failed” status, but on other days they work perfectly without any errors.
