EMC M&R tool need information about LUN performance report

I am new to EMC M&R tool, recently I have collected the individual LUN performance report.

From the report I can see the following metrics for each LUN

Availability

Utilization

Queue Length

Bandwidth

Response Time

Service Time

IOPs

I have following question

1. Utilization metric is that the LUN capacity utilization?

2. IOPs - Up to what range number we can say it is normal?

Hi Ravisrr,

I found this thread,please have a look:

Hello,

There is a lot to explain about which metrics you should take into consideration, but generally:

- Check utilization levels for physical components (disks and processors for example), not virtual ones (LUNs / Pools). The utilization of a physical device lets you know whether or not there it too much load on it. However, for logical entities, utilization simply indicates whether the underlying physical devices on which this LUN (for example) resides are working or not.

- For LUNs and Pools, check throughput (IOPS) levels.

- The acceptable/good range of IOPS on each LUN depends on several factors, including the LUN type (classic, thick or thin), the RAID type of the RAID Group / Private RG the LUN is on, and the disk type used. Each drive type has a certain threshold of IOPS which if exceeded, you can expect latency to increase on the LUNs using the drive. Also each RAID configuration and LUN type are best for certain patterns of traffic (sequential / random) and IO sizes.

There's a lot more to performance monitoring and planning, so I'd suggest some reading on the overall best practices:

https://support.emc.com/docu42660_VNX2-Unified-Best-Practices-for-Performance---Applied-Best-Practices-Guide.pdf?languag…

What I've found most useful is some of the VNX specialist and expert level training courses, if you want to consider this option.

Anyway, if you have any other particular performance metrics questions, just post them here.
