Can't reset Admin or Service Passwords

Hi.  So my VNXe3100 and VNXe3300 just came out of warranty last month and now I've discovered that on both boxes the system will not accept the service passwords.  I've gone through the process of pushing the reset button to change the passwords back to default, however, after logging back into Unispshere with "admin" and "Password123#" and supplying new passwords for both accounts, I'm finding that it fails to take either one.  So, I'm stuck!  Looks like the only way I'm ever going to get back in is by having support use the serial connection to enable the root account and have them fix it from there.  One time many years ago I had a support technician on the 3100 box through serial and they reset my service password when I did not know what it was.  Although, as I mentioned at the beginning, I no longer have support on these boxes.  I've spent all week looking all over the internet on ways I can try doing this myself; using the service LAN port to connect to a SP, and by pressing the "Tab" key during SP bootup (while watching the boot process through serial) to edit the bootstring so I could copy the current password for the admin account to the "nasadmin" account.  I could never get those too work, maybe they weren't exact for the 3100/3300, I do not know.  Does anyone have any advice for me?  Thanks.
