Backend cabling for the VNX5400 block

Hi,

We have currently vnx5400 with 2 DAEs. We need to add two extra DAEs same type. Presently we connected this DAE to the DPE using the both the loop id in the DPE. Please advise which is the best way to connect the new two DAEs to protect against the the DAE failure. I have attache the back side picture of the present DAE.

see the example for nine DAE's

basically you have two SAS ports

port 0 already internally has the disks in the DPE connect - thats why we cable the first two DPE's to port 1

with more DAE's just distribute them across the ports and daisy-chain

I did not see the example for 9. attach the picture

from pages 105 onwards

the pictures dont show the individual cable bus they show the bus and enclosure number which should make it clear.

If you are still unclear I would suggest to engage service for installation

Please see the following two documents - the first one is the basic installation guide, the second one has some examples of using more that two DAEs - in the second document see page 127 and read through this second and the next one.

PS - I found en example (not for VNX5400) but it does show the way the loops are configured with more than two DAE - EA = Enclosure Address:

I mostly wanted to tell you/ remind you that the Unisphere Service Manager will step you right through this process. It will even show you where the cables go.

In your situation I believe (all other things being equal) that you want to add one DAE to each of the two SAS I/O channels on the array. These will chain off of the existing ends of these channels.

While I would caution you to be very careful, and to take reasonable cautions with your data and its availability, this is an online operation, which should not interrupt access to your current LUNs.
