Assistance with Initial Configuration of VNXe3150 and VNXe3200

Hello,

I'm a hobbyist who recently acquired a Dell EMC VNXe3150 and VNXe3200. I've been attempting to integrate them into my network and utilize them as intended, but have encountered several challenges.

Steps I've taken so far:

  • Attempted to detect the devices via DHCP; no success.

  • Tried configuring them using a USB drive with a configuration file; no success.

  • Experimented with both the network ports and the service ports (wrench icon); no success.(reddit.com)

I've read about the "VNXe Connection Utility" that should assist with the initial setup, but I've been unable to locate a download link for it. The official Dell support site requires an enterprise account associated with the system to access the utility, which I do not have. (reddit.com)

Additionally, the manuals I've found do not provide information on performing a factory reset from an external source or configuring the communication interfaces.

I've ordered a serial cable, but it won't arrive for at least a week. In the meantime, I'm seeking alternative methods to configure the devices. I've come across mentions of using the IPMI tool or the svc_initial_config command, but I'm unsure how to proceed without the necessary software or documentation. (dell.com)

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

I sent you a link for the connection utility, that being said you still may be limited since factory reset requires phone support. These were designed with the idea that they would only be used under warranty.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

VNXe initialize is complicated task. It is not the same with Unity who can reinitialize by USB.  For VNXe, the only solution is inject root and scp bin file and then run the reimage.

@DELL-Josh Cr

Good day,

Thank to the software I was able to get the VNXe3150 configured. I'm yet to crack the VNXe3200, but there is progress.

What really helped me was connecting some/all to an otherwise empty switch.
Then listening for any network communication with wireshark to get a confirmation that the network interfaces are indeed working.
Then I just found it with the discovery option and configure it.

Now I'm at another problem.
The VNXe3150 has very old drivers [2.4.4.22638 (Thu Nov 10 20:51:43 GMT+0100 2016)] that allow connection only with a TLS1.0 and flash drivers on the browser.

I do not have access to the list nor the download links for the official drivers from the DELL website, but I'm assuming that there has been made some updates in the last 9 years.

Would it be possible to provide me with the .gpg file so I can update it?

Thanks for your question.

It should be available here https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/vnxe3200/drivers

Hello, @DELL-Josh Cr.

Right now I'm trying to update the Unisphere on my VNXe3150.

When I try to use the official links I can only see this:
