Adding DAE to VNX 5100
hello,
I have a VNX 5100 with 3 DAE's, 1 DPE(60 disks) which is working fine. I would like to add another 1 more DAE with 15 disks to make a total of 75 however i am getting the following error message when i use USM to add the new shelf. "A DAE cannot be added to your system because the maximum number of drive slots would be exceeded. The maximum number of drive slots for model VNX5100 is 75"
The other thing is that all the DAE's are daisy-chained on bus 1, could this be the issue
Thanks,
Gushaz

Then it should work
If you are unning an older VNX OE its worth looking at the release notes for latest code if its fixed there.
Otherwise I would suggest to open an SR to get customer service to investigate

Does the DAE you want to add only has 15 slots or more ?
The number of drives populated in the DAE is irrelevant for the drive limit check

Agree with Rainer here, the restriction is applicable to the total amount of drive slots installed, whether or not they are populated with physical drives. If they are all 15 slot DAE's, then something is amiss.
I don't think think the fact the DAE's are all on the same BUS is a factor at all.

All the DAE's have 15 slots, Is there a limit on the number of DAE's that can be on one bus ?
below is the output of the configuration with the new DAE powered up.
Replaceable Units

Physical Disks Details
Bus
The newly Installed DAE is the one in Italics.

Seems quite strange. Are you running the latest version of USM ?
