VNX5300 VMWare Site Recovery Manager 5 snapshost errors

Hi,

we have got the problem that Site Recovery Manager 5 does not complete tests of recovery plans.

It always ends up with an error "testFailoverStart no reply" in the SRM GUI while creating new snapshots.

If we are going to look on the second VNX after this error we do find a Snapshot that was created by SRM.

It does not make any difference when we create a manual snapshot with "VMWARE_SRM_SNAP" in its name.

Our system setup does look like that:

Site1

1x VNX5300 (Block only), Flare Code 05.31.000.5.502

2x vSphere ESXi 5.0 (latest patches)

1x vCenter Server on a VM running Windows 2008 together SRM 5.0 (5.0.0.1652) on the same machine

On the vCenter Server are the following software/plugins installed:

EMC MirrorView Enabler 5.0.7

EMC VSI 5.1.0 together with EMC Solution Enabler 7.3.0

VNX SRA 5.0.1

Navisphere CLI 7.31.30.0.90

Site 2

1x VNX5300 (Block only), , Flare Code 05.31.000.5.502

2x vSphere ESXi 5.0 (latest patches)

1x vCenter Server on a VM running Windows 2008 together SRM 5.0 on the same machine

On the vCenter Server are the following software/plugins installed:

EMC MirrorView Enabler 5.0.7

EMC VSI 5.1.0 together with EMC Solution Enabler 7.3.0

VNX SRA 5.0.1

Navisphere CLI 7.31.30.0.90

ESXi servers are connected over FC to the VNX5300.

VNX5300 on site 1 is connected over FC to VNX5300 on site 2

MirrorView/S is up and working.

What's wrong here?

Bye

Robert

Hello,

after some testing the problem is solved. The VNX5300 did not have enough space in the Reserved LUN Pool.

I would suggest to ask in the Vmware specific support forum category

Robert, sorry to go off topic. Did you have to do anything to get SRM to see your LUNs? I am running 4.1 and installed VNX SRA, MV Enabler and Solution Enabler and still can't see my block LUNs...Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

1. perform rescan on SRM array manager

2. Ensure your mirrorview session is fully synced

3. Source and taget and snapshot luns must be in the source groups at both sites

Then you should be able to see your datastore or datastore group in SRM.

@doubleroll

If you are running SRM 4.1 then you should not run VNX SRA, or the MV enabler.....instead you should be running the earlier version of the MV SRA which is compatible with SRM 4.1.

SRM 5 SRA's are not backward compatible with previous versions of SRM, this is due to a large change in the SRA specification for SRM 5.
