VMware vSphere 4.1 Integration Scorecard: EMC vs. IBM, any new version?

Hi all,

I found a very useful Competition Analysis on storage supports VMware. http://one.emc.com/clearspace/docs/DOC-14967  Unfortunately, It's a little outdated. This document mentioned "This scorecard focuses on vSphere 4.1. Seperate scorecards will be created for vSphere 5 later in 2011.**"  I am wondering if any of you happen to have the updated scorecard and can share with us. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Both,

Maybe we need some time to wait for complete vSphere 5 scoreboard. But we had some referecne for new features on vSphere 5 integration. Chad's blog always give an outstanding presentation on the stuffs. Please go to link. List some brief also.

So, what’s new?

  • in vSphere 5, not only is vSphere/VMFS “thin aware”, but it actively exploits and leverage thin provisioning at the array level for both Block and NAS storage models.
  • Wherever possible, “more standard” approaches have been used – with the goal of not needing any vendor plugins for block storage models.
  • There is now support for NAS hardware assists which not only help with Thin Provisioning, but can leverage array functions (like file-level snapshots/versions).
