Unisphere CLI install problems - Please Help!
I have VNXe 3150
Unisphere ver 2.4.0.20932
I have been trying to install teh VSI plugin so I can manage snapshots on the NFS datastore share for individual virtual machines. Of course I want to take advantage of other benefits from using this plugin.
I installed the plug in and it shows up in Vcenter but it requires the Unisphere CLI to be installed.
I downloaded the Uniusphere CLI for windows 64bit as my Vcenter server is on a windows server,
I am struggling to figure out how to install the CLI for windows. The install bits are packaged in a Linux compressed format. I have no linux so I used Winzip 7 to extract. The files all seem to be Unix files with no executable to install on my Vcenter server. I have an open EMC ticket but they are ZERO help. The guy I am working with has no clue and refuses to escalate upon my request... Very Frustrating.
I hope someone else can help.
I have searched all over power link and the web in general but cannot find the details on installing the Unisphere CLI for Vcenter on my windows server. All documentation for the VSI plugin simply state it is a requirement but no matter how many different documents I parse through, none tell details on how to install that component.
The last update from the EMC tech was that I should call VMWare support to have them tell me how to install the EMC Unisphere plug-in.
I was ready to explode when he said that. No help at all and he refuses to escalate telling me that if he does it will just be sent back to him so he will not escalate.
Bottom line seemed so simple to me, steps on installing Unisphere CLI on 64 bit windows....
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

I think you may have downloaded the wrong Unisphere CLI package, as there is no 64bit windows version (but there is a 64bit Linux version).
The 32 bit windows version should work fine, and you can get it here:
https://download.emc.com/downloads/DL31622_VNXe_Unisphere_CLI_(Windows_32-bit).exe
The user guide is here:
https://support.emc.com/docu31491_VNXe_Unisphere_CLI_User_Guide.pdf?language=en_US
As far the the support tech - I'm sorry to hear about that experience. Any time you are unhappy with a tech, you can always ask for the duty manager, who can/will reroute you to a new tech.

KEYTOOLZ,
Firstly, welcome to the forums and above all thank you for being an EMC customer. We do apologize for your experience with support. The VSI plug-ins are fully supported by EMC.
I simply wanted to mention the following regarding the VSI plug-ins:
1) client-side tool
As a client-side tool, the USM VSI plug-in (and supporting tool: Unisphere CLI to manage a VNXe) is installed on the same host from where you launch vSphere Client. This also means if everyone in your environment has their own remote instance of vCenter Client to manage the vSphere environment, then everyone will need their own local installation of both the plug-in and Unisphere CLI. I simply point this out as the architecture and OS of the vCenter Server doesn't necessarily dictate the version of the tool and supporting utilities.
That is unless of course you launch the vSphere client locally on the vCenter Server.
2) web client of vSphere 5.1 is unsupported (currently, assume that an updated version is inevitable though)
For now, you will need to use the C#/traditional/Windows vSphere Client to take advantage of the VSI plug-ins such as: USM (which you are currently trying to install), Path Management, and Storage Viewer.
Apologies if this is simply repeating what you already know. As already pointed out though, everything you noted suggested that you had accidentally downloaded the Linux/Unix version of Unisphere CLI.

I now have the bits installed correctly but I still have a problem that EMC support cannot resolve. I have added my VNXe 3150 in the plugin interface on my vsphere client. I am trying to complete the ASA configuration to enable snapshots from within vcenter. Within Unisphere I have enabled ASA for all nodes and I have set the password for the "asa" user. I then go to add the password on the vcenter side by clicking EDIT on the VNXe I added and entering the password as well as hitting the checkbox to enable ASA. The password will not be accepted. I see the task queue up and then I get an error saying "the operation is not allowed in the current state". I also see a message saying "the remote server returned an error 500 Internal server error" EMC says it is a problem with vmware. Vmware says it is n EMC issue. I have asked for escalation on the EMC side but I don’t know if I will get that. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Ultimately the problem had a few elements but you were correct in that I had the wrong version in the beginning of my issues. I wish it was more clear since there is a 64 bit version for what seems like all other OS's that are available except the windows vcenter plugin. Also when I originally worked with EMC support they said I was using the correct version when I tried to download the 64 bit vsphere version. He should have asked me more question like, am I managing from windows vcenter or not.
I think a better explanation of the versions would be nice to see from EMC.
maybe a note saying something like:
"This version is 32 bit but it is intended for 32 and 64 bit implementations of Vcenter on windows"
Of course we wont see that happen but I thank you for your assistance!
