Storage Quotas with Virtual Center Plug-in

While at an Executive Briefing in Hopkinton, a person speaking about VMWare integration mentioned that there were quotas associated with the plugin for vSphere so that the storage administrators could limit how much storage the VM Admin could provision. He wasn't sure of the details around the quotas.

Our customer would like to know what the options are for defining the quotas.

Is this possibly in an Admin manual somewhere?

Thanks,

Eric

I am not nearly as familiar with the Unified one, but in the Symmetrix one you can set how many LUNs they can create, how large or how small they can be and what type of disk type they can be. This is mentioned on page 87 in the Storage Pool Management techbook. As i said before I wasnt sure which provisioning application you are referring to. Are you talking about the Unified one?

Are you referring to the Unified Storage Provisioning piece or the Symmetrix Provisioning piece?

For Symmetrix provisioning, see the techbook:

For unified provisioning, see the product guide:

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, Cody.  Unfortunately, I don't see anything about quotas in the docs.

The point of the discussion at the EBC was to not permit a VC admin to provision more than XX GB of new datastore storage from the array in any one operation.  Maybe that limit would be set by the storage admin to be something like 200GB on a 2000 GB storage pool, or something like that.

These "quota" features are not available in the Unified storage plugin.

To expand on this a bit..

Fellows on the product team for VSI do read this forum and are active in responding to questions.  This feature is something I am getting asked in the field to add to the plugin in the future.

My question to everyone is around what exactly would we want to see?

Role Based Access Control which determines certain policies for what roles provision?

And by provision can we limit a role to a prepopulated template approach, ie. a 2TB lun every time?

A role for being able to provision anything?

Auto-tiering policy settings?

Limit a RBAC to provision a certain amount total?

Limited to certain pools/raid groups?

Whats the extent to what we would want to control via RBAC from the plugin?

Long story short, we value feedback for direction on where we are missing functionality and if we currently don't have it on the truck, this forum is a great place to make suggestions to the product team.
