Replication Manager - Multiple VMFS Volumes & CBT requirements
Hi
I have a requirement to backup a virtual SAP environment using EMC Replication Manager on a VNX5500 array. The SAP VMs will be split across multiple VMFS LUNS on different storage pools for performance (EMC Fast Cache is enabled on one storage pool) and growth requriements.
I am trying to find out if Replication manager has any issues backing up VM's spread across VMFS LUNS, and if change block tracking needs to be enabled for the snaps to happen. CBT enablement information is requried so I can take any associated perf hits into account per VM. We are planning to leverage the in guest agent to ensure the data is quiesed correctly and will be using VMDK files for all storage.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to a file or files that might have these answers. I have looked on Powerlink, but havent come up with the answers yet.
Thanks in advance
David

Answering my own question here. In the EMC Replication Manager Version 5.3.2 Administrator’s Guide page 390 seems to have all the limitatons of the product.
It seems Replication Manager has an "interesting" requirement of a single VM per VMFS LUN to use the in guest application aware backup process. This makes the VMFS planning requirements extremely painful and will mean proliferation of VMFS LUNS all over the place. Not ideal.
Maybe we need to look at another option that is a bit more robust and can deal with multiple VM's/VMDK's per LUN.
Cheers
