raid group size

Is it best practive to use as many disk as possible when creating a raid group and carve luns off that for best performance?

can you create a raid group from multiple buses or dae or just create the rg from one bus?

1. If you only look for better performance, the way is to create MetaLun spanning multiple RAID groups as the number of disks in single RAID group is limited.

2. You can create RAID group from multiple Bues. This is called Multiple DAE Provisioning or vertical provisioning. It will bring performance benefits by leveraging multiple Buses the disks reside on.

vertical provisioning will benefit workload that require a lot of bandwidth, not necessarily a lot of throughput

Below are recommedations from

H4093 - EMC CLARiiON Best Practices for Fibre Channel Storage

Striped MetaVolumes are recommended for  high IOPS and high bandwidth applications instead of RAID group with large spindle counts.
