powerpath or extra hbas
without the powerpath software I see I have 8 paths
4 standby and 4 active
but 1 active only has (I/O
with powerpath will that give me 4 paths active?
can I get more active paths by adding in extra hba?

if you have 4 paths to SPA and 4 paths to SPB, change policy to Round Robin for your LUNs and you will see 4 active and 4 passive per LUN. PowerPath/VE provides more intelligent load balancing /failover.

Hi There,
if you are upgrading to CX4 and will have PowerPath/VE installed, then you want to enable failovermode=4 which will enable ALUA AND is a pre-requisite for VAAI.
if PowerPath/VE isnt installed on a CX4, then you have the options:
1. RR = loadbalancing without a path auto restore
2. Fixed = no loadbalancing but auto path restore
PP/VE offer both.
