one hba is in standby mode
Hi Everyone,
We have two redundant fabrics.Last week we replaced core switch from one fabric due to hardware failure. We have multiple servers connected to this fabric.
we were able to recover the second path on all AIX,solaris and windows servers. We also have ESX VMware servers connected to this fabric. We have two hba's in each ESX server and zonned to two redundant fabrics. Now my question is the hba's which are zonned to the fabric where the core switch has been replaced are in standby mode. How to bring back the hba's from standby mode to active mode.

Can you describe the active/standy portion a bit more? Where are you seeing this? One thing that can happen when replacing FC switches is that your FCID's which get generated based on the FC domain id can get changed. The FCID looks like 0xffffff, where the first byte represents the hexadecimal number for your domain ID. The last four digits can be random, so if you replaced the switch and kept the same domain id as it was previously, the last four digits can still be different. In this case, I think it would take a reboot of the host to allow access via the new FCIDs. I haven't gone through this scenario exactly recently, but it is also worth looking at "connectivity status" from the arrays perspective. Check the color of the paths for the hosts in question and see whether they have a blue shade or not. If they are blue, and the path is logged in and registered (yes and yes under connectivity status), then you need to add those paths to the stroage group to make them available to ESX.
Your scenario might not pertain, if information around what you are seeing from the array under connectivity status, and more information from VCenter would help.
