Sorry working FAST ;o)

What I am trying to find out is which ECC agents have to be installed on an ESX server for it to be recognized and report back info successfully?

There isn't actually a ControlCenter agent to get installed on the ESX hosts themselves. What you have is a VMWare Proxy Agent that you deploy on another host (we have dedicated Agent hosts for these type of infrastructure agents in our environment). When you discover ESX hosts you provide credentials that the proxy agent uses to connect through the CIM interface on the ESX hosts to read the information for ControlCenter. You can also point the discovery at a Virtual Center instance to discover all the ESX hosts that that VC instance knows about, but in the end I believe it still uses the provided credentials to talk to each individual host (someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't use the VC discovery method).

All in all this model is much closer to the new (SRM7) direction of agentless discovery. technically there is still an agent, but not one that you have to deploy and maintain on every target host.
