Clariion Static Load Balancing??
I'm somewhat confused by the EMC document "Using EMC Clariion Storage with VMware vSphere and VMware Infrastructure"
On Page 122 it says "Static load balancing can be achieved by balancing CLARiiON LUNs across the two SPs and HBAs"
I was always under the impression (from EMC and VMware docs) that on Clariion storage only MRU could be used and therefore things like a host reboot will force all LUN communication across a single HBA.
Page 162 (first 5 paragraphs) outlines this assumption, the only thing it says about a "workaround" would be to adjust the failover time, which I assume would not impact the reboot issue outlined above.
What am I missing?

through a little more reading and a night of sleep i think the document is saying that static load balancing can be used, but you will run the risk of path thrashing, is my assumption correct?

Trevor,
There is a very thorough blog post on Chad Sakac's blog concerning this issue that I think would be of help to you.
http://virtualgeek.typepad.com/virtual_geek/2009/09/a-couple-important-alua-and-srm-notes.html
You are correct about the possibility of path thrashing when using the "Fixed" policy and his post explains why.
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
